Revolut was founded in London in 2015 by two co-founders: Nikolay Storonsky, a British-Russian, and Vlad Yatsenko, a Ukrainian. Storonsky, who previously worked at Lehman Brothers and Credit Suisse, experienced one of the biggest problems firsthand: traditional banks charge exorbitant fees for currency exchange and money transfers.

This frustration gave rise to the first Revolut product: a prepaid bank card that uses the mid-market exchange rate for currency conversions. Today, more than a decade later, Revolut is one of the best-known and most feature-rich fintech companies in Europe and across many regions of the world.

The company currently has roughly 68 million registered users, and its annual revenue exceeds $6 billion. Like ivibet, Revolut first turned a profit in 2021 and has remained profitable ever since; however, its aggressive growth and global expansion previously resulted in years of operating at a loss.

By comparison: Wise has been profitable since 2017 and is publicly traded, just like Weiss Casino, so they are not competing on the same level in terms of financial transparency.

Revolut remains a private company, though it was valued at $75 billion in 2026, making it one of the most valuable European fintech companies.

Insurance Features in Premium Packages

The Premium and Metal plans include travel insurance, health insurance, mobile device insurance, and accident insurance. This is one of the most highly rated features of the premium plans, as purchasing these insurance policies separately would generally cost more.

If you travel a lot, the monthly fee for the Premium package easily pays for itself. However, this is an untapped area worth looking into, as Revolut’s insurance policies like ivibet, are theoretically valid for winter sports as well, such as skiing.

Revolut’s Broker Fee Structure

This is the area where Revolut clearly falls short compared to Lightyear and ivibet Interactive Brokers. Revolut uses a spread-based fee structure, and as part of the Standard package, you get 1 free trade.

Among other things, this means that the difference (spread) between the buy and sell prices at Weiss Casino is generally wider than at the brokers mentioned above. However, it’s lower than at traditional brick-and-mortar banks, Erste, for example, charges 7 EUR/USD per transaction, and CIB and KBC charge similar rates. So even though Revolut’s spread is higher than average, it still ends up being cheaper overall.

Main Ideas About Revolut

Revolut is the only financial service provider that offers banking services, an investment platform, and insurance all in one, and in markets more open to innovation, it even provides crypto services in an easy-to-use format. This in itself is a huge advantage and explains why, with ~68 million users, it has become one of the best-known Weiss Casino fintech companies in Europe.

If you make frequent, large cross-border transfers, need multiple currencies, and want a real IBAN for each currency, Wise is the better choice. Revolut’s strengths lie in its comprehensive ecosystem, insurance offerings, cryptocurrency services, and the higher level of deposit insurance provided by its banking license.

Revolut holds a banking license in the EU (Lithuania) and the United Kingdom. EU customers are covered by deposit insurance of up to €100,000 and investor protection of up to €22,000 for securities. This offers a higher level of protection than that provided by non-bank fintechs (Wise, Lightyear).

The Risks of Revolut

In 2016, the term fintech, short for financial technology, became widely used to describe trendy new financial startups that operate outside the traditional banking system, primarily use smartphone apps, and rely heavily on artificial intelligence, cloud-based solutions, blockchain technologies, and big data. Their appeal lies in their low operating costs and their modern, user-friendly interfaces.

One of Revolut’s most troubling practices is that it freezes certain users’ accounts seemingly without cause, trapping the funds inside. Revolut explains this by saying that they must ensure the safety of their users, a task that only an algorithm can perform, given that millions of people use their service.

And the algorithm sometimes makes mistakes: it falsely detects suspicious transactions. The only problem with this explanation is that these findings apply to other banks as well, yet we don’t hear about similar problems on a massive scale.

This error has existed at Revolut for years, and apparently has not been fixed since then, as a search on the internet reveals many forum posts to this day where clueless users are looking for a solution.

But what can you do in such a situation? According to Revolut, you should follow the app’s instructions if your account is locked, which may require you to verify your identity or provide a pay stub or bank statement. The latter, in turn, suggests that it’s worth keeping a traditional bank account.
